The MPS MP2617A is a Switching Charger. It operates from a 4 V to 10 V input, is rated for 3 A, handles 1s battery stacks and switches at 1.6 MHz. It is supplied in a QFN-20 package.

The MP2617A / MP2617B is a monolithic switch mode battery charger with power path management for single-cell Li-ion batteries in a wide range of tablet and other portable devices.

Design Notes

Charge current accuracy depends on the sense resistor tolerance, so use a 1% or better part and keep its traces Kelvin-connected.
Wire the NTC input for JEITA profile control if the pack is charged over temperature.
Set the input current limit to what the adapter can actually deliver; a limit above the adapter rating causes the input rail to collapse mid-charge.
Termination current and recharge threshold dominate cycle life in shallow-cycling products.
